Color & Light I: Theory & Application


In this course we'll teach you about the basic principles of color theory and terminology that will help you improve all areas of design. With a deeper understanding of color, you'll be able to make informed decisions to effectively apply color to interfaces, icons and branding.

Here's what you'll learn:

Color:

  • An overview of color theory
  • The psychology of color
  • The relationship and interaction of color
  • How to strategically choose a color palette to match your brand
  • How to use color to add visual hierarchy and flow to your design
  • Accessibility tools to simulate color blindness and other visual impairments


Lighting

  • How light works to create shadows and highlights
  • Different lighting techniques used to illuminate a scene
  • How to apply lighting to your designs to add depth
  • Demo: The proper way to use gradients in Photoshop + CSS3
